On May 21st, 2018 Dr. Bainbridge attended Governor Hickenlooper’s signing of Senate Bill 22. Earlier in the month he testified in both the house and senate in support of this bill to fight the opioid epidemic. This bill mandates certain clinical practice measures to ensure safer opioid prescribing.
The opioid epidemic affects the entire United States, and Colorado is no exception. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 11.5 million people in the U.S. misused prescription opioids in 2016. Misuse of opioids is characterized as taking these prescription pain killers in a way that is not prescribed by your doctor, whether by taking them too frequently, taking someone else’s prescription opioids, or taking them in combination with benzodiazepines and/or alcohol, to name a few.
