Manual Therapy

What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy includes a wide variety of hands-on techniques to address restrictions in different areas of the body. As physical therapists, we use our hands to work with all tissues in the body, including muscles, connective tissues, joints and even nerves. For example, we may perform massage techniques to release tight muscles or trigger points as needed. We will also mobilize joints when we locate areas of restriction.

Benefits of Manual Therapy:

Your physical therapist will typically use a variety of manual therapy techniques in combination with therapeutic exercise. Once you can move more freely, we want you to use your improved range of motion as well as strengthen into that range as you are able. Your home exercise program is therefore vital to help you maintain and improve on the results of manual therapy between physical therapy sessions.
